Frequently Asked Questions about TREHALOSE

What is trehalose?
Trehalose is a naturally occurring disaccharide. Literally, trehalose is two glucose molecules bonded together in a unique way that makes it a healthier sugar.  Read the educational paper by clicking here.

How is it packaged?

It is packaged in 1 lb bags and can be purchased in 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 40 and 50 lbs quantities.

What is the cost of trehalose?

Here are the current prices.  Click here.

From where is trehalose derived?

 Corn starch

Is trehalose high glycemic or low glycemic?

Low glycemic for most people.  Each individual is encouraged to test himself or herself.  It seems that nearly every body does not have a sugar spike when eating trehalose.  However, if a person has the enzyme trehalase abundant in his/her system, that enzyme may split more of trehalose into two glucose molecules that could increase the sugar level.

Are there any published papers on trehalose?

We are posting papers and responses on our Sugar Science Forum You will be able to interact on this site.

 How sweet is trehalose?

About 45% as sweet as table sugar.  Most people use over twice as much as you normally would of sucrose.

Will trehalose help remove the sugar crave I have?

Everyone is different, but we have discovered that some people do not crave sweets as much as they did before using trehalose. We are encouraging responses to this question on our Sugar Science Forum

How much trehalose should I eat per day?

It takes a little over twice as much for the same sweetness as table sugar.  Some are using 2 to 6 tablespoons per day.

How much will I need to buy per month?

A couple will use approximately 7 lbs every four weeks.  Or, a family of four will use about 15 lbs per month.

Will trehalose give me a glucose spike?

Diabetics and those with other health challenges may also participate in the survey as long as that is indicated in the Baseline Form.  Trehalose is considered low-glycemic for most people.  Most people do not have a sugar spike when eating trehalose.  However, if a person has an abundance of the enzyme trehalase in his/her system, this may cause the splitting of trehalose into glucose which could increase the sugar level.  Therefore, the diabetic participant is encouraged to monitor his or her blood glucose levels daily.
